Time is fixed. Attention is spendable, and most of it is spent without a decision.
Audit before you optimize
For three days, write down every place your attention landed for more than five minutes. Do not judge the list. Just make it.
The three leaks
- Anticipation: rehearsing conversations that will not happen.
- Surveillance: monitoring people you cannot influence.
- Noise: consuming input with no intended output.
Where attention goes without consent, character follows without consent.
